o%20understand%20the%20convective%20precipitation%20processes%20for%20climate%20model%20development%2C%20the%20U.S.%20Department%20of%20Energy%27s%20Atmospheric%20Radiation%20Measurement%20%28ARM%29%20program%20made%20high-frequency%20radar%20observations%20of%20PWV%20at%20the%20Darwin%20ARM%20site%20and%20released%20the%20best%20estimates%20from%20the%20radar%20data%20retrievals%20for%20this%20time%20period.%20Based%20on%20the%20best%20estimates%2C%20we%20produced%20a%20PWV%20data%20set%20on%20a%20uniform%2020-s%20time%20grid.%20The%20gridded%20data%20were%20sufficient%20to%20show%20the%20fractal%20behavior%20of%20precipitable%20water%20with%20Hausdorff%20dimension%20equal%20to%201.9.%20Fourier%20power%20spectral%20analysis%20revealed%20modulation%20instability%20due%20to%20two%20sideband%20frequencies%20near%20the%20diurnal%20cycle%2C%20which%20manifests%20as%20nonlinearity%20of%20an%20atmospheric%20system.%20The%20statistics%20of%20PWV%20extreme%20values%20and%20daily%20rainfall%20data%20show%20that%20Darwin%27s%20PWV%20has%20El%20Nino%20Southern%20Oscillation%20%28ENSO%29%20signatures%20and%20has%20potential%20to%20be%20a%20predictor%20for%20weather%20forecasting.%20The%20right%20skewness%20of%20the%20PWV%20data%20was%20identified%2C%20which%20implies%20an%20important%20property%20of%20tropical%20atmosphere%3A%20ample%20capacity%20to%20hold%20water%20vapor.%20The%20statistical%20characteristics%20of%20this%20long-term%20high-resolution%20PWV%20data%20will%20facilitate%20the%20development%20and%20validation%20of%20climate%20models%2C%20particularly%20stochastic%20models.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222018%5C%2F10%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1142%5C%2Fs2424922x18500109%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%222424-922X%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22RHDBECM2%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222022-10-17T22%3A47%3A41Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
